FedEx Express welcomes new Mercedes-Benz eSprinter to UKfleet
The 3.5t fully electric vehicles will fulfil routes in centralLondon, making them ideal for serving the capital’s Ultra LowEmissions Zones.
LONDON, 20 September 2023 - FedEx Express Europe, a subsidiaryof FedEx Corp (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest expresstransportation company, announces the addition of 23 Mercedes-BenzeSprinter to its UK operations.
The 3.5t fully electric vehicles have been allocated to FedExExpress stations in Bermondsey (19 vans) and Hornsey (4 vans). Thepick-up and delivery vehicles fulfil routes in central London,making them ideal for serving the capital’s Ultra Low EmissionsZones.
Earlier this year, 19 charging points were installed toaccommodate the electric vehicles ordered for Bermondsey station,while 20 charging points have been installed in Hornsey, inanticipation of the site’s future energy needs. Both sites aresupplied with renewable energy and have sufficient capacity tocharge the maximum number of vehicles onsite overnight.

In March 2021, FedEx Express set a global target for 50% of allnewly-procured parcel pickup and delivery vehicles to be electricby 2025. This should rise to of new vehicle orders by 2030,contributing to a desired position of carbon-neutral operationsaround the world by 2040.
In line with the FedEx ‘Reduce, Replace, Revolutionize’ approachto sustainability, these new EVs will allow existing FedEx dieselvehicles that still have an ‘operational lifespan’ to beredistributed in its fleet, and older vehicles retired fromoperations completely.
FedEx Express stations in Barking, Enfield, and Milton are nextin line to receive electric vehicles in 2024, with an expansion ofcharging infrastructure planned for a further three pick-up anddelivery stations in and around London.
